How to burn music from 2nd drive

I have all my music stored on the back up data drive to keep the C: drive tidy but I can see the music I want to burn in WLM but after selecting what I want it will not burn it.

What am I doing wrong please?

I can't answer your question only provide an observation. I found trying to burn with WMP to be an exercise in frustration. It's just too difficult to find and load items you want to burn. Drive, Library, folder, WMP is less than intuitive.
So, I would suggest downloading BurnAware (free edition). It's a well thought out burner program, simple to use, and I've always been satisfied with the results.

This sounds like WMP thinks the files are still on your C drive even though they have been moved.

You have the folder your music is stored at added to your music library, correct?

If so, restore WMP and let it rebuild the database using the new location.
If not, In Windows Explorer, Right click the music folder and Choose Properties and click Add Folder to Library. then add the folder where the music is located now.

To clear WMPs database, just right click in the top right corner of WMP, just to the left of the Play tab in the open area.
-> Choose Tools/Advanced/Restore Media Library.

This should fix the problem after it rebuilds the database with the correct locations.

Hum Wishmaster I actually copied /pasted them from a drive out of my Sandy Bridge and to keep the clutter down in the SSD I copied / pasted again to my data drive and deleted form the SSD. I did try to do that in reverse but nothing happened.

Before I did that I opened WMP and the files showed up I set a compilation to burn and it gave me some error message that they could be found but they were clearly in view that is when I tried the reverse action to put the music back to the SSD so there is the same music on both drives - but they are still unaccessible.

To be honest WMP is a piece of goods and I am wondering if the app that bej suggested might be better cos I have had so many problems over the years with WMP.

In my very simple mind I should be able to pick the music from any drive regardless of where WMP is situated and not have all this convoluted mucking around

I think whats happened is that WMP has the "My Music" folder added to the the Music library. When you opened it, it scanned and added those files.
By copy/pasting to a different location, WMP doesnt realize they moved. So it still lists them, but when it trys to access them thats why you get the error.

If thats not the cause and the steps I mentioned earlier does not fix it, Im not sure what it could be.
I do know if you want to use WMP, you need to have your Music library setup to include the folders where the music actually is. When you do a copy past it bugs WMP. It does not automatically remove broken links all the time. Whicj is why you need to clear it out and start over at this point.

Thanks Wishmaster I'll have to start from scratch again and I think that the answer is for me to get a 256GB SSD for the OS and just keep the music in it.

I don't know why Microsoft has had to make it so convoluted though it's a bit like me putting a chair into the garden shed (it's still mine - I know where it is) and the chair still appearing to me in the house and I go to sit and fall over. Plus retrieving the chair is only possible in theory it cannot happen in reality.

I sometimes wonder about the reasoning behind such thinking of the programmers and it is not just this particular instance that baffles me with a lot of the stuff that I find that others seems to grasp so easily yet I don't. Give me some hardware and / or circuitry and I find it as simple as. But I guess it would not do for us all to be alike.:huh:

Well it looks like I have to re-rip all of the music to WMP or just find some other way of making compilations different tracks. I have the whole lot in My Music in Computer and Users My Music but neither will show up in WMP.

It is such an exercise in futility. I tried the Burnaware but it only does whole albums I cannot pick / mix and match individual tracks with it, however t looks good to do ISO and Bly ray stuff with at least it is easy to use.

Speaking of BurnAware;
You could copy each track to a folder on C:\ then burn the folder as a data disc.
You would have to be careful about the total size of folder whether CD or DVD.
You can make compilations. I added files from four different CDs and they all
showed in the burn area.

Hum well I found a way yhis morning with WMP in the Organise feature > Manage other libraries and just add the HDD library - that was just a complete fluke as I was just doodling around the tabs so it seems it can be done.

Mind you it is not very clear in any Google and as there is no Help in WMP.
