hi all
we have Laptop's with windows 7 professional 64bit in domain. admin rights are restricted to the domain users. But many users most of the time use to travel out of station and need to change the IP that time. I tried adding domain user ID's in "network configuration operator" group but still not able to change IP from domain user without giving admin right. can any body tell me any other processes to change IP from domain user not having admin rights in windows 7 ?

Hello,

Can't you just set the PC to boot of DHCP? I'm presuming you have a DHCP Server? If its installed on a Windows Server then you can reserve the address so that you dont have to mess with printer configuration again etc.

I believe the Power Users group may also have the right to change the IP address. The network configuration operator group should work though (as you said).

DHCP isnt an option?

Are you the admin of the network? Is local admin rights to the user not an option?

hi
yes i am the admin of the network..
local admin rights we can not provide to the users due to security reasons.
inside our network DHCP works.
but if user is out of station and need to change IP to connect with clint networks then the problem comes.

There would only be a problem if the client had not enable DHCP though, correct?

Have you got any GPO's setup specifying network settings?

hi Dave
yes you are right. user use to face problem when the client does not have DHCP enabled.
No GPO's specifying network setting.

Have you disabled UAC? - Because UAC requires elevation.
