Reformat your hard drive and install XP. There is no direct downgrade without a reformat.

It would be wise to vist the Laptop Manuf. site ahead of time to make sure that XP drivers are available for that model...

Many people with Vista laptops found out the hard way that the machine had no XP drivers.

Why would you want to go back to XP?
Do a dual boot of xp and 7 instead

Why would you want to go back to XP?
Virtualize XP instead
There you go. :)

If you simply must downgrade to a nearly decade old OS, you'll have to wipe the drive clean and install it clean.

Exactly, Deacon. And, just as importantly, as Patio mentioned, finding drivers for XP on a new machine can be quite problematic as well.

Like Yowanvista says - Virtualize the XP.

One thing to note, the OP needs to identify if his laptop has Professional or better. You need Professional or better to run XP Mode. If he is using Home Premium, he won't be able to Virtualize XP.

Sure the OP will. Virtual PC, Vmware Player, VirtualBox...all are free and will do the job just as well as XP Mode.

Actually, can installl Virtual PC and will run. I'll try to find the official MS statement as you aren't the only one who will find the info useful. MS made some "improvements" in this area just a couple of months ago.

Hope I saved the links, since both my hardware and software support XP mode I didn't pay much attention to the info. MS did remove the requirement that the hardware support the XP mode, but once again I need to find the links.

I agree that making a system image so that you can return to where you were is a good idea.

I have always used the Win 7 Backup and Restore capabilities for this operation.

Win 7 Backup and Restore is free, works, and effortless.

The backup and restore offered on XP was problematic.

The backup and restore on Win 7 is extremely sound and solid.

When you get ready to restore, which you will, then you find a System Repair Disc to be invaluable.

Hey First let me Thank you all for the response.

Actually my problem with Windows 7 is, I have to install QTP 9.2 version, Windows 7 is not support that QTP 9.2 version. It supports the version QTP 10.0. So for a while I have to work on QTP 9.2. For this reason it forcing me to change degrade to XP

Please see DeaconFrost's post listing options to run XP on your computer without having to "degrade".

I have no idea what QTP is but you are putting the cart in front of the horse. Update QTP. Do not downgrade your operating system.

You can still Dual Boot by shrinking your Win7 partition to make room for an XP partition next to it.

First follow Patio's suggestion and go to the Dell SUpport Downloads webpage for your computer model to make sure there are XP drivers. If not, you are going to have problems which may not be solvable. We can help you try.

If there are XP drivers or if you want to try anyway, shrink Win7 in Disk Management by about 10-20gb: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2672-partition-volume-shrink.html

Now follow the steps in this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/8057-dual-boot-installation-windows-7-xp.html

Ask back here as questions come up. We help with these every day here.

Before you do anything, have you tried using the Windows 7 "Troubleshoot Compatability" function? Try following http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html after installing the QTP 9.2 version.

Hi there

You'll probably find that if you try and install XP on a newish laptop it won't find any HDD drives because the SATA drivers don't exist in the standard XP system.

These will need to be "slipstreamed" into your XP install disk.

If you go to this site you can load all sorts of drivers and it explains how to integrate these into an XP system so you can install.

This site will have some video drivers too. There's all sorts of W7 stuff on this site too.
