I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to networks so i hope i've managed at least to get the question right.

I have a new Sumvision micro that i want to connect to my PC's router so i can play files from the PC's HD. I think that it is possible but do i have to set up the Media player or the PC or both? And how? - the instruction manual gives no clue what numbers i need to enter or where to get them from.

I already have the TV connected to the router and that seemed to sort itself out, but all i get from the player when i try to set it up is 'connection failed'.

There is a' PPPoE (whatever that is) set up' under 'network' but again i have no idea what info it wants or if it's even relevant to what i'm trying to do.

Can anyone shed some light please - in the simplest possible terms?

Thanks

Did you get any manuals with it?

PPPoE means Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet, I doubt has anything to do with your situation.

Thanks, i'll take your word about PPPoE. As i said the manual is utterly useless for me. All it says is:

You can connect to any other device network device by WIFI or RJ45 cable using either UPNP or DLNA standards. Configuration for networks is done in the settings. To select videos from this simply either ‘UPNP’ or ‘network’ and choose which server or device you want to access. If you select a device on the network, it may ask for a username and password; this will be set to whatever username or password you’ve assigned to the source network device.

That's it. There's a lot of detailed wifi instructions but nothing i can understand and i don't need wifi anyway.

Edit - actually there is some more but it's no more help to me it says

RJ45 connection: You can connect to any other device network device by WIFI or RJ45 cable using either UPNP or DLNA standards. Configuration for the network is done in the setup menu. You can connect the Micro 4 media player to other devices through a router. Once physically connected you can proceed to turn on the network settings by going to SETUP and then the network sub menu. Here you can choose to have either a dynamic or fixed IP, routers usually assign one automatically so most of the time it can be left on dynamic. You can manually type in the information on the manual setting.
If DHCP (Auto) has been selected you’ll be taken to a new sub menu where you can choose to type in the DNS server manually, by default AUTO will be selected

Share the folder where your files are: right click the folder - share with - specific people (you should see yourself, click share)
With TV access the PC and enter your username and password you use to login to Windows

See if this works, best I can do blindly at the moment

I've already shared the folder with 'everyone' under 'sharing' and 'security'.

I'm not sure what you mean by "With TV access the PC". With the media player source on the TV i just get "connection failed" when i try to set it up.
