How to copy a video DVD that I have made

Totally legally, I have downloaded a TV program broadcast by the BBC. This is for watching with friends in the future on a DVD player. One of them has asked me to make a copy for him. I checked that the DVD plays on my DVD player, which is actually a TV recorder/player. I don't know what type of player he has (a straightforward DVD player, or a TV recorder/player).

To make the copy I tried a method given to me, which is to drag the VIDEO_TS folder on to my Desktop, which copies it there (takes about 20 minutes). The next step is to insert a blank DVD-R into the tray and when its window opens, drag the copy of the VIDEO_TS on to its window. I was offered two methods: to make a DVD that will play on a DVD player, and something else which didn't seem appropriate. I chose the first.

After recording, I put it into my DVD recorder/player and the menu screen appeared and I could play the episodes separately, but there was no sound.

Which CD or DVD format should I use? - Windows Help

made it look very complex. I think what I want is a clone, an identical twin. A simple enough task.

Please note: I am using the term "DVD" to describe not the physical disc (but of course I am using a DVD), but the type of recording where there are no computer-type files listed, but instead this VIDEO_TS file, and when it is put into a DVD player, a Top Menu appears offering several episodes to choose from.

How can I make a copy of the type I want, please?
