'Your Connection is Not Secure'

I'm suddenly seeing this message popup on lots of genuine sites. Does anyone know a fix? Thanks

you will see 'Your Connection is Not Secure' if the url you are trying to connect to is an http address rather than a secure https one. Check the link or bookmark you are following to make sure it is correct.

Either that, or there is mixed content within the web page. What that means is say you load widget.com as an example. Widget.com shows images of widgets. While widget.com is configured to use HTTPS and most images have HTTPS links, some images may not, and when that happens you have what is called mixed content which breaks the idea of a "secure connection."

Can you share a link or two where you're seeing this? Also, what browser are you using?

Do note that just because a link is HTTPS doesn't mean it's virus free and all this crap. A HTTPS connection just means that your GET and POSTs to and back from the website are encrypted making it harder for someone to see what you are viewing or submitting to a website that uses HTTPS. It doesn't mean the website is virus free, etc. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Also note, just because a website uses HTTPS doesn't mean you can willy-nilly use an open WIFI network without the possibility of getting owned. For the most part, your traffic is in fact encrypted with a HTTPS site. If I were to monitor the traffic you are sending and receiving over the open WIFI network I'd only know what website you went to. I wouldn't be able to see what the website looks like or what you submitted to that website. In order for me to do that I would have to conduct what is called a man in the middle attack. This is very possible with an open WIFI network or a WIFI network where more than one person knows the WIFI password. This is where a good, reputable VPN comes in at and there are many facets to that as well. If you're trying to hide your true IP then there are many things to do. If the use of a VPN is just to encrypt the whole enchilada on an open WIFI network, then a good, reputable VPN will do and nothing else has to be done on your part at the browser level.

Thanks for the reply. Firefox. Right now I cant find a link but one of them was from the Police Alert system. They send details of local crimes and you can comment but everytime I try to comment up comes that connection page.

When I come across it I will post it. Cheers

As you have Firefox, look at these add on

Smart HTTPS is a Firefox extension that helps you always use the secure HTTPS protocol, if supported by the site’s server. It automatically changes HTTP protocol to the secure HTTPS, and if loading errors occur, the extension will revert back to the original HTTP protocol.

The HTTPS Everywhere extension fixes the security problems by rewriting all requests to these sites to HTTPS.
