Hi all, is there a way to recreate the SysMain service in windows 7 SP1 because i've stupidly deleted it a while ago using the "sc delete" command in cmd?? I know there is a "sc create" command but i don't know how and if i can use it to restore the SysMain service, and i need it for ReadyBoost...not to say i don't have Superfetch and ReadyBoot, so i would really appreciate your help.

P.S. I would like to avoid any kind of windows reinstalling.

Hello Samy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If available, you could do a system restore using a restore point dated before you deleted the service to restore it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Well, other than a complete reinstall, you might see if a repair install may be able to restore it. Be sure to backup anything that you do not want to lose first to be on the safe side though.

You can, but you'd have to know all of the options to add (just run sc create /? to see what I mean). Or, you can import from a working machine into the registry and reboot that will have those options already configured properly.

Sorry to reply so late...I've merged the .reg file and after the first restart everything worked fine, the service started automatically BUT after the second restart the service doesen't start automatically and i if i try to start it manually i can start it for 2-3 times after startup for about 3 to 5 minutes then after the 2nd or 3rd time i can't start it again and i get "Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified." Actually this is the reason i've deleted it the first time. And yet again the same ploblem.:banghead:

P.S. I've ran sfc /scannow there were no files missing; sysmain.dll is there in system32 folder.

Do you have any ideea about how could i fix this?

Problem solved

I had the same problem.

The issue was not only had I disable SuperFetch in services but I had edited the registry to completely disable prefetch and superfetch as well, as per the instructions on this site:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/77119-superfetch-change-prefetch-data-cached.html

To fix you need to undo these registry changes

Go to this registry location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters

Edit both EnablePrefetcher and SuperFetcher and set them both to 3.

Now try to start superfetch in services and it will work.

Cheers
