How to determine if your board has ASIO drivers?

Hello to all,
I downloaded a program for music recording and it requires an ASIO driver. Not knowing what that is, how would I go about finding out? Thanks for any assistance!

Hello Hanna 1,
Got side tracked and I am still in over my head with ASIO drivers. I've downloaded some, but all instances appear to require a device to plug the guitar into a usb port.
I was hoping without knowledge, that I could use the microphone input. The support of that company state that they believe it is impossible without this device and I don't know enough to dispute, no care enough to spend $100 for the device.

I have a recording studio (using Sonar X1).

You list the ATI Radeo HD4200 as the sound device. That is incorrect, that is only for HDMI audio. The PC audio is what is built on the motherboard, such as RealTek audio. Generally, the integrated PC audio systems do not have ASIO drivers. You can try the free ASIO4ALL drivers but I've had problems with those drivers.

The PC inputs, either microphone or line in are designed for a high level (near "line level") signal, and not the low level "instrument level" from a guitar or P.A. mic. You will need to amplify the signal for proper operation. Actually, buying a USB connected recording interface unit that has "instrument" input is the best option.

It seem that it is inevitable, one day I'll have to upgrade. From what I do understand is that the ASIO is designed to get better instrument quality sound, plus you get drum kits and amp and effects. Eventually I may go there. Do you have any suggestions for a novice setup and software. I mainly want to do a backing track to my liking to practice lead. Thanks for the the response!
