I have no virus protection running. I have disabled the built in Windows Defender program that came with my 64bit Win 7 Ultimate DVD. And when I down load it still scans for a virus. This is a FRESH install and no other security software is running. Is this just for show in Win7? Or is there something I failed to do?

I found the answer!! It was my Firefox settings - I Typed about:config in Firefox and filter for the string browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone. - I changed it to false.

I'm curious - Why disable your protection? IMHO It's not a wise move to make considering the abundance of malicious software out there!

An antivirus program is pretty much the immune system of a computer. By all means consider installing a full-fledged antivirus suite (consisting of an antivirus and firewall feature plus realtime protection), and as an extra layer of protection you can install the free non-realtime version of Malwarebytes on your machine. Windows Defender is not enough by any stretch of the imagination. Since you use Firefox (browse the internet and download stuff, in other words), an antivirus program is all the more important.
Never install two realtime antivirus programs on your computer (should not be possible, because one program will try to remove the other before installing itself, but people find ways to force both onto the machine ;-) ).
