Hi,

Current situation: 1 HDD with 2 partitions(C and D drive)

Result: 1 HDD with 2 Partitions. Partition 1 empty; Partition 2 containing 2 sub partitions(original/back up C and D drive).

Problem faced: I formatted my HDD to 2 partitions successfully, however when I did a system restore from my back-up(in external hard disk), my HDD was reformated to its original partition(current situation) just like before. Hence losing the empty partition.

I don't want to do a clean install as my laptop comes with some preinstalled software which i don't want to lose.

thanks in advance!

Please post a screen snapshot of Disk Management.

You say "system restore". Do you mean restoration of an image? The use of System Restore is something else entirely and should not affect partitions.
