How to get an installation disk and find my Win 7 key

Hello

Windows refuse to load up. I was working with my system, then left for two hours. When I returned, a blank screen with the mention that an update may have cause Windows to crash pleas put your installation disk.

I built my system about 7 years ago and my Windows has been updated from Win 32 to Win 64 over the years.
I bought a legitimate licence from a Microsoft student program over the net, meaning I don't have the disk, nor the licence number ( lost the paper).

Any help appreciated

Martin

More questions for you Doc...

I did install the faulty SSD drive containing Windows with an USB adapter on another PC to read my files.

When looking under My computer, I see that 2 drive system is installed under the SSD drive. One of them appear has full and display a warning. This is not the drive where Windows is installed. Does an SSD drive use a 2' drive to store some data?. If so, could the 2' drive be the cause of the faulty installation or problem? Is there a way to allow more space to the drive

Is there a risk to loose data when repairing Windows?

Is there a way to read from the registers witch version is installed. I'm pretty sure that it is Win 7 64 pro, but want to make sure...

Thanks again Doc for your kind help

You say you "built" your system? Or did you purchase it with Windows (Win 32?) pre-installed? If you purchased it with Windows already installed, you can go to the computer manufacturer's web site and order a restore disk (re-installation disk) for a minimal charge, provided you have the computer's Serial Number and model number, etc., which should be listed on the back or under-side of the computer. The manufacturer keeps a record of the Windows licenses issued based on your serial number.

Unfortunately, this would probably only get you the Windows 32 that you originally had. But then you could upgrade to Windows 64 using your product key, which you said you were able to find, right? I think most Windows licenses let you install it 3 times (on the same or different computers, just a total of 3 times).

I have a Toshiba laptop and didn't create a system recovery disk immediately like they tell you to do. When I had to get a new hard drive, I called Toshiba and purchased a recovery disk(s) for about $30 (USDollars). It wasn't free, but better than buying a new Windows license. And it also had all the software/applications that came pre-installed when I purchased the computer.

You can call the manufacturer directly to order a restore disk(s), if you don't have internet access because of your computer problems. Just be warned- they may try to sell you a phone tech support service option, with some questionable arrangement as to how much it will cost. Just say "no thanks" (probably have to say it several times) and ask for the restore disks.

Not sure if that answers your question... but hope it helped.
