I'm sure this is an easy one for you guys.

I need to install Paint on my machine.

My understnding is that it is already available on Win 7 machines, but just needs to be 'activated' (or similar).

Assuming it is already there, but 'hidden', can somebody tell me how to 'unhide' it so that I can use it.#

TIA.

It doesn't need to be activated or anything like that. You just open it.

There are a few different ways to open it. Here's one that may be the easiest:

  1. Open the Start menu
  2. Type paint
  3. Press Enter

If you think that you will use it frequently, then pin it to the Taskbar by right-clicking its taskbar button (this is done while Paint is open) and select "Pin this program to taskbar".

There is also a Freeware program called "Paint.net" that works s similarly. I use both from time to time.

MS Paint can be found in Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories. The file it self (mspaint.exe) can be found in C:\Windows\System32\. It can be opened opened using Run dialog or searched by both Paint and MsPaint.

It is a native pre-installed Windows application and does not need to be separately installed or activated.

I have Paint pinned to the Start menu and Quick-Launch in Win 7, and pinned in a group named 'Quick Tools' on the Start Screen (and in Quick-Launch) in Win 8/8.1, as I use it for quick & basic stuff that isn't worth opening Photo-Shop for.

But, as others have stated, there are several ways to open Paint, just use whichever one suits you the best. There isn't a 'right' or 'wrong' way.

One thing I personally can't abide, though, is a task-bar full of pinned programs. That's what the oft-forgotten Quick-Launch toolbar is for. My task-bar is for showing running programs, pinned stuff goes in Quick-Launch.

A top little machine that hasn't let me down once since the day I removed it from its packaging over four years ago. It's done everything I could want, and more, all without a single issue. 10/10, Acer!!
Thanks everybody, I appreciate your swift responses! Just what I wanted.
