Dear All,

I have HP pro book 4525s and i can connect with wire connection and i can also see that in the network adapters. I can't see my wireless adapter and also can't find out what i have to look for as for drivers so it can show up.

Please help, I tried the HP site and it is confusing as it has more than 11 different drivers to choose from and i don't know what to choose?

Hi if you go to device manager and under network category it should show what the wireless is. Then you can download and install

It's not shown there but similar laptops shows the wireless adapter. Is there something wrong with the laptop?

You just have to start installing wireless drivers until it shows up, read each description a bit more carefully, no way does it have 11 wifi drivers.

Hi rwahdan

Firstly, do change your System Specs to Laptop / Notebook, as it is not PC/Desktop

There are method in determine on the correct drivers.

Just download all the drivers listed, and put in separately in folders.

When installing the drivers, use the wireless adapter properties to check directly to the folders of drivers.

In this way, it will able to detect which driver is more suitable to use, which may not be the actual if unable to find.

Just let the windows detect the driver accordingly.

There are various authentic ways !

Hi to All & rwahdan,
Sir,
1. HP Support Assistant can simply do it for you !

2. Microsoft manages/maintains a great bank of drivers. so, first, let them only decide what is the correct driver for the wireless card in their bank . once we come to know the right name ,as the driver is installed, we can manually download and install the latest driver from the manufacturer's site (if we want to!).
So, there are three ways to go about it:- (A) Windows Update (B) Microsoft troubleshooting (C) SemiAutomatic method
You can make a System image and go for it for additional safety concerns. Windows Update method may need admin rights, the other two methods need admin rights to execute. All three need connection to internet.

(A) you can check for windows updates and look for wireless card driver listed . (I would set windows update settings to ‘Check for updates , but let me choose whether to download and install them ‘)

(B)Microsoft Troubleshooting : this uses the inbuilt troubleshooting feature which has been placed in windows operating systems from Windows 7 onwards . (I feel this is the easiest way) here we go :
(1) click on ‘Start’ > click ‘Control Panel’> click on ‘View by’ and set it to ‘Large icon’ at the top right.
(2) Come down to the icon ‘Troubleshooting’ and click it.
(3) now click ‘Configure a device ‘ under ‘Hardware and Sound’ > give permission / enter the password in the confirmation windows >click ‘Next’ in the ‘troubleshooting wizard’ window .
(4) now the wizard will analize the problems and may also ask before finally taking step(s) . normally , a little care and allowance is sufficient. And the problem(s) is/are resolved.
{ this method has plus over the manual method that it analizes and resolves the misconfiguration problems broadly. And is easier for novice users.}

(C)SemiAuto method : this is more of a manual method to find and install right driver for the device automatically ! here we go :
(1) make sure that 'View' option in 'Device Manager' window is in the default setting i.e. 'Devices by type' is dotted/selected and 'show hidden devices' is not checked.
(2) there would be unknown device(s) with yellow exclamation mark under 'Network adapters' heading in 'Device Manager' window, (how many are there, we would take them one by one ! )
(3) we would double click the ones> go to the 'Driver' tab window>press the radio button 'Update Driver...'> and click "Search automatically for updated driver software"
(4) now the search begins telling "Searching online for software". let the searching and there after installing process finish and its done.
(5) if there are more entries with unknown device, yellow exclamation mark under network adapters , we would do step 4 & 5 with each of them !

{ if there are any other unknown devices/uninstalled devices in Device Manager window ,unless done on purpose , they should all go through the same process!}

3. Manual Method : this is a method to collect some particular information which is ‘Hardware ID’ of the uninstalled device. After that we can google that and find/recognize the device name. then we can find the right driver from the manufacturer’s support site.
It needs admin rights. It doesn’t need internet till the information is found !
Here we go to find the unknown/uninstalled device(s)’ Hardware ID.
(1)Device Manager > Network adapters> double click Unknown device(s) (one by one)> Details Tab>select ‘Hardware Id’ in ‘Propety’ drop down > notify the value(s).
(2) Now you can google the info , find the correct hardware device name , go to manufacturer’s support site, download the correct driver and install it.

Thanks & Regards,
Vineet Garg…

If you get a live Linux disk and once it's installed (in live mode of course) you can open the terminal and do the command:

dmesg | more

Press the space bar to page through the output. It might identify the device you're looking for. Commands lspci and lsusb are good but dmesg really shows a lot. There must be an equivalent in WIn7 too...I'd like to know it myself.
