Hello!

Sound won't play on my desktop computer. It says one or more audio service isn't running.I have tried updating and re-installing the sound drivers, but it won't work.I have also tried the Windows Audio service but it shows "Error 1068 The dependency service or group failed to start".Multimedia Class Scheduler and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder say Error 193:0xc1.The following devices cannot be update because I can't find the drivers for them online. And my system says this also contributes to the sound problem.-Base System Device-PCI Simple Communications Controller-PCI Memory Controller-SM Bus ControllerDid anyone have similar issues, and if yes how did you resolve it?Thank you in advance!

Hi,
I've just been messing around with the sound on my Win 7 and Win XP cpus. Try using the Control Panel Device Manager. Click on the "Sound, video and game controllers". There should be something like: High Definition Audio Device or Realtek High Definition Audio. Right click on the devices and and check to see if its disabled. If the devices are disabled you won't get any sound. It's a place to start. The Sound button will show under playback the audio devices on your computer. You can select a playback device and modify its settings. The Control Panel might also have something like Realtek HD Audio Manager, a Nividia Audio Manager, etc.

You might have already gone through this stuff, but I might as well send a few hints.

Good luck,

Phredtx

I thought of this after I sent the earlier reply.

You might try restoring your computer to an earlier restore point.

Hi Phredtx,

Thank you for the reply. I have tried the Device Manager and Control Panel path, but in the Sound window, both in Playback and Recording it says No audio devices are installed. Even though both High Definition Audio Device and Realtek High Definition Audio drivers are in the Device Manager and are updated.

I have also tried System Restore but it didn't work.

For some reason the computer doesn't recognize the audio devices.

It says:
"This computer cannot play audio because Windows Audio Service is not enabled." But when I want to enable it it says "No audio devices are installed." I have drivers updated, and I have speakers as well as headphones plugged in, but it still doesn't work.

Does your computer have a built-in audio device or do you have a audio card plugged in to a PCI or AGP slot?
