How to fix wake up issue caused by power button?

hi,

i have this wake up issue. after checking the event viewer, it said that the cause is the power button. how can i fix it?

have u tried the methods mentioned in the thread ??

Could you post the event log of System and Application for us to review.

have you tried using the below in the command prompt

powercfg lastwake
this will list the item that woke the system last.

Type the below to see what devices have the property to wake the system
powercfg -devicequery wake_armed

Let us know what you see here

NOTE: if it says power button.... it means you have pressed the power button on the laptop or desktop to wake from sleep.. This is just an log entry in Event Viewer and not an error.

I did that check. When I type: powercfg -lastwake, it said

when I type: powercfg -devicequery wake_armed, it said nothing (blank).

I did not push the power button. So it wakes up by itself and that's what I have. Also I cannot shut it down, it always turns it on by itself. Please help me, this is very annoying.

its would be really nice if you can atleast update your system specs ..

First command result says that its was the power button that got the system from sleep or hibernation

The second command says .... there is none of the drivers (eg: networks drivers, modems, wifi, usb mouse, or keyboard ) in your system has "Allow this device to wake the system up"

So the only probable reason is the power switch ..... if its a laptop.... remove the cover attached to the power button and check what the problem is

if its a desktop, again remove the front cover and access the power switch and see what the problem is ???

If its none of these ..... there is also a possibility as mentioned in this forum post where the person had motherboard with dehumidifier function... which would start the PC automatically without user intervention....

in any case please post the complete eventviewer logs for system and application to check further..... I seriously dont have physical access to your computer to contemplate what the problem might be !!

It is my laptop (ThinkPad X220). Is this what you meant by system specs?

I am not sure what do you mean by removing the cover attached to the power button, it is just a normal power button.

Hi mgp

Could you check your bios ... specifically for Power option where if "Power on AC attach" is Enabled. The system is powered on when AC is attached. When the system is in hibernate state, the system resumes.

This could be one other reason that your laptop would wake from Standby without pressing the power button.

Try disabling this option and let me know

I just want to say I had this exact same problem and stumbled on this thread while finding solutions. It's like moments after my computer goes to sleep it wakes up again:

And what I did was disable the "Wake on Lan" option from my BIOS settings, and everything worked out again perfectly. I followed the solutions from this page:

Hey everyone,

I had the same problem as mgp121 (same Wake source and everything). I agree with noted's comment about Wake on LAN, but instead of disabling it completely, all I had to do was change the power management setting under device manager to "Only allow a Magic Packet to wake the computer"
