Dear Windows experts,
we are now fighting with a TOSHIBA laptop, that has its power button broken.
The idea is to always send the computer to sleep, instead of shutting it down,
then use the keyboard in order to wake up the laptop.
This option is present in the BIOS and we have already activated it.
Reading different forums, I have seen, that it is necessary to enable wake up
by keyboard in windows as well.
Though the problem is, that we are missing the famous "Power Management"
tab in the properties of both the keyboard and the mouse in Device Manager.
After an extended google research, we have come to the magic way to do
this via the command prompt - with the help of the following mighty command:
powercfg -deviceenablewake "Standardtastatur (PS/2)"
But it doesn't work, we are getting an error that we have not enough permissions.
The computer has Windows in German, so I will just write the exact error message,
I am not sure how it exactly translates in English, but it is a permission issue:
Sie haben keine Berechtigung zum Aktivieren oder Deaktivieren der
Reaktivierung eines Geräts aus dem Ruhezustand.
it's like you don't have the permission to activate or deactivate waking up of
a device from sleeping mode.
Of course we started cmd.exe by right-clicking it and selecting "Run as Administrator",
I also went in Windows Explorer to C:\Windows\System32, did a right click on cmd.exe
and selected "Run as Administrator", but we are still getting that permission issue and
we are not able to get the appropriate authorization level, in order to execute that
command successfully !!
PLEASE help us somehow, we are now afraid to turn off the PC, because it doesn't
start afterwards, it was only possible to start it after days and days clicking the power
button!
Many many thanks in advance!
