Hello,

I am going nuts trying to reset my default email program.

I NO LONGER want to use IncrediMail ..
Twice I have lost Folders with valuable email in them.
Once due to a System Restore, it corrupted file formats,
I can see them in the Identity/Message Store Folder,
IncrediMail just doesn't recognize those folders anymore.
There is NO PROGRAM to help me rectify that issue.

I'm afraid to remove IncrediMail because I'll lose more mail.
I want to set another email program as the default but IncrediMail
seems to be hanging on tight to being the DEFAULT.

Does anybody have a clue how I can over-ride IncrediMail ??
Feel like I'm batting my head against the wall.

I've gone to Control Panel > Default Programs > Chose IncrediMail >
Chose the Set Association for a program > It's checked like its the default
but it WILL NOT let me uncheck it.

I also went to Firefox > Tools > Options > Applications >
Down to mailto and told it to use Gmail.
Then back up to IncrediMail and changed that to always ask.

I use Windows 7, Firefox Browser but would like to set Gmail as the default.
If I can't do that please someone suggest something for me to do.

Thank You in Advance for even taking the time to read this conglomeration.

Regards, Jenn

Hi:

Disclaimer: no personal experience with Incredimail.

That does sound odd that you cannot de-select it from the control panel.
Perhaps Windows needs you to have another email client installed, to be an alternative (either Outlook or a 3rd-party email client)?

I have used Thunderbird for 100 years.
Although it's not the only email client out there, it is free, well-supported (by Mozilla and especially by a strong user community), stable, customizable and robust.
And I know that, when you run the installer, it will prompt you to decide if you want it to be the default mail client.
Moreover, according to this KB topic here, there is a means to import your stuff from Incredimail into Thunderbird: Importing and exporting your mail

I hope this helps.

Hello MM,

Thank You so much for your help/input.
Think I will definitely try that, may be only hope I've got.

Is Thunderbird a stand alone mail program or
integrated into the Firefox browser ??
I apologize for that question, I will google & read about it.

Wonder if the reason Windows wouldn't let me uncheck IncrediMail
is because I was trying to use gmail and it isn't a stand alone program.
This thing has had me pulling my hair out.

Btw, I tried getting IncrediMail's help, they suggested I read
Microsoft's article on how to set your Default Programs .. Duh !!!!
The fact that their program has assigned itself the DEFAULT is not their issue.

I swear if I didn't want to lose those messages I'd un-install that baby.
I have heard it's EXTREMELY difficult to get remnants of IncrediMail off your computer.
Beginning to understand all of that stuff now.

Again, Thank You so much, appreciate your help.

Huggs, Jenn
