How to get Extended Security Updates for eligible Windows 7 devices

For one reason or another, I thought I might keep using Win7.

Then why bother saying this??? Everyone knows Windows 7 is dead, my comments were based on what you said. Some may want to keep 7 around, I will.

All this fear mongering happened with XP too, but folks were using that for years after with no problems, though you did have to know how to mitigate threats!

The 0Patch may be an option if you do not want to do your own patching, all I can see in the patches offered last year were 3rd party application patches, which would have been freely available direct, and the majority of the patches are not included in the free option - this may appeal to some but does not give me any confidence

Certainly is not a golden permanent fix but it is an option/additional protection for those that are hanging on. I don't know what I will do yet. One machine I will run 0Patch on for sure.

Microsoft are the only ones with a the ability (access to the Windows 7 Code base ), and the legal rights to produce such patches. It is probably possible to go to an accredited Microsoft Re-seller and sign up to a support contract rather than go to Microsoft Direct.

Even then this is a service that only Microsoft can provide and they have already stated that this is not available to Anyone except Enterprise Volume Licence customers, for I believe at present a period of three years.

Anyone offering Microsoft patches direct to non VL customers would be in breech of various laws (I have not seen 0Patch offer such a thing so am not accusing them of anything). Microsoft included various non Microsoft updates and patches in their regular updates, Such as Flash and other 3rd party software These are the patches that are listed in the 0Patch documentation.

I can see some VL customers going to 0Patch to supplement the update service from Microsoft if Microsoft only offer updates for Microsoft code in future, and paying for it

Only if its owners forcibly close it. That's hardly unlikely, but even if that happens, I'm sure some replacement will rise up in its place (at least for a time).

There are people still using it. There was no free upgrade and their computers probably wouldn't run Win10 anyway.

I still have XP on a desktop, because my Car Diagnostics software only works on XP. I also have XP in a VM to run another automotive program. Amazingly, the upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 kept the VM and software intact and working.

I still come here on occasion, just to see what's going on. Still have Win7 on dual boot. Don't stay long - Can't stand the Barflies

I just heard of the MS ESU program.

Is this something I purchase direct from MS? And is it avail to someone like me, who has purchased an OEM vers?

Also, is it just for support (which I do not need), or are updates and patches included?

home editions of Win7 (Starter, Home basic & premium) are not eligible for ESUs
