How to get Registry value from old, mounted, offline Win 7?

Assume I have mounted a Windows 7 image file (ISO or Aomei Backupper or TrueImage) to drive letter T:
This Windows 7 is NOT the active, currently running one but an old backup archive file.

Now I want to get a certain Registry value from this image resp. old Win 7.

How can I achieve this?
All Registry editors I know so far allow only peeking into currently active, local Win 7 but not an offline, inactive Windows?

Or did I miss something?

Which files exactly contain the Registry data?

You can find the registry files in \Windows\System32\config folder.

Boot your computer with Windows Setup Media and from Windows Recovery Environment start the Command Prompt.

Type below command into Command Prompt and press Enter key to open registry editor.

Code:
Regedit.exe
From registry editor click File --> Load Hive option to mount a registry hive file stored within \Windows\System32\config folder.

Sorry, I'm just being a nosy old man. But I have to ask, "what the heck are you looking for"???

Assuming that I was looking for something in a backup image, like you've indicated, I'd dig out one of my old SPARE HD's, restore that backup to it, boot it up, and go into the Registry Editor, and do a search for what I'm looking for.
Easy peasey!, but if you don't keep a spare HD laying around, it could be a little more difficult.
I actually have ten of them, so when I want to try something out, I have a spare drive to try it out on.
I do that with new OS's too. It's become my hobby, since I retired.

Good Luck on your quest.

You might need the power of Resplendence's Registrar Registry Manager to copy off what you want if it can get into the registry hive of that inactive Windows image. I think there still is a free version or at least a trial version.

But Roland, wouldn't that OS have to be running to do that, and not just in a Backup Image File, that could possibly be coded or compressed? Eh?

Also, many if not most Backup Image Files are encoded so that they cannot just be Opened, and read like a book.

I use "Ghost backup", and the files it creates are indeed not easily read. But Symantec put out a program called "Ghost Explorer" which WILL let me look into an Image file and even copy individual files out of it.
That makes recovering a long time Lost file a snap.
