How To Locate This ...

... started up my machine for the day and when startup was done this notification popped up (attached). I went to Device Manager and expanded all the entries looking for that little yellow triangle alert icon and nothing there. At a loss on where else or how else to proceed to locate/discover why this occurred.

Okay, try this. When the driver installation popup appears, run ProcessHacker. Now click the name tab so it stops auto scrolling. Look for the popup name and right click it. Chose properties and click the Environment tab. That may help clue you in to its location and where it's coming from.

Other than that, maybe a system restore will resolve this.

I do not see 'ProcessHacker' in my list of programs. As this is not a showstopper I will not do a restore. Anyways, as indicated by post#2 & #3, the message has not returned as a result. Today, I had another (related?) notification area pop-up (see attached) and this too (after a restart) has not returned. I think it's time to open her up and give her a bath of fresh (canned) air. I'll keep y'all posted.

There may well have been. Like the dummy that I be I cliked the wrong icon (it was called EventViewerClear). I don't even remember why it's there but it opened a cmd window and a bunch of stuff scrolled by for a bit and then the window closed. Still, I went ahead and looked for and found it (Start > AdminTools > Event Viewer). Whoosh! That is the sound of something going over my head as I am looking at this utility for the very first time.


Anyways, I did clik the pop-up as instructed (see post#7) and this action opened another display that looked similar to the Device Manager and the yellow alert triangle was next to one of the many USB's listed and labeled 'Unknown Device' to the best of my memory. However, what's really weird is that everything usb-wise that is plugged in is working (keyboard, wireless mouse transmit/receiver unit & a 4 port USB hub, image attached, that has a fan plugged into one of the ports). As per Jerry's advice, I shutdown the machine, re-seated the usb plugs and started the machine. All fine so far, but why shouldn't it be? No problems but for these strange messages from the beyond ...



Ghost in the machine? Gremlins?
