How to mark a bad block on hard drive

I have a laptop that I purchased a while ago and now I am getting freeze-ups every time I log in. Also in event viewer I noticed this message:


The device, \Device\Harddisk0\DR0, has a bad block.


So my question is.. is there a way to easily mark bad blocks on the HD so to not encounter freeze ups?

I think chkdsk will do that, but you're better off replacing the hard drive as soon a possible as things are going to get worse. You can try and clone the HDD with AOMEI Backupper so you can clone back to the new HDD. But if you already have bad blocks, the clone will write bad data.

Right click the the hard drive and you'll find the option for a hard drive check. You'll have to reboot the computer after you select the option.

Just to follow up on F22 Simpilot suggestions . . .

Please run my chkdsk_ALL_Parameters.bat [OPTION 4] from here => BATCH PROGRAMS [Standalone] and then upload the results using the tutorial at the bottom of the above link [Upload to SevenForums] and someone will look at it for you.

There are two imaging/cloning programs which are very popular among members here, the first is AOMEI Backupper Standard [FREE], and the second is Macrium Reflect [FREE].

If you clone a hd with bad blocks it will mark bad blocks on the new drive second you dont know how many files have been corrupted so the only sensable option is a clean install. Hd have engineering tracks and remap bad blocks to there only when that's full do you see bad blocks so then the disk is in a bad way
