how to permently delete printers and port?

I have the same printers installed a few times because due to moving the router and printer around, each time I get a different port number. Now I have four printers installed and I can not delete them, every time right click remove device, they come back as a greyed out icon, and when I go to printer properties>port>delete port, I get an error message "the requested resource is in use".

can someone help on how to delete the installed printer and port thanks.

have you tried to stop/disable the print spooler in services then try this?

1. Launch Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers
2. Click on any of the listed printers.
3. Click “Printer server properties”.
4. Click the Ports tab.
5. Select the port and click “Delete port”.

Ok I stopped the printer spooler, now when I open up "devices and printers", no printer or faxes shows up, nothing.

ok turn the service back on. when you try to delete ports are you using admin rights (some greyed out items can mean this) have you used the printers un-install software? does anything show in device manager for the printers?

I have no idea, how can I check if I have admin privilege?

go to control panel and look in user accounts and see what your account is set up for

you are a administrator then. i am just doing a bit of research for you to help when i have un-installed printers in the past i have used the disc that came with it. and it removed all trace etc.

1. go to the Start menu
2. Type the MMC in the Search
3. This will open the Microsoft Management Console shortcut on the start menu
4. Select the Add/Remove from the file menu
5. Scroll down to the "Print Management"
6. Select the driver from the list and select the "Remove Driver Package".
7. After that restart your PC

or

1. Type MMC on the run box
2. Click on the file
3. And then to the Add Remove Snap in
4. Choose Print Management
5. Now click on the “Add Local server” button
6. Select the driver from the print management
7. Then to the Print Servers and the to the machine
8. Now Right click the Printer Driver and remove the same.

If you have permission to manage documents on the printer, you can also cancel all print jobs and then try to remove the printer again.
