This is probably a very easy thing to figure out/fix, but for the life of me i cannot find the solution. I normally access the internet through my wired network connected to a router and my high speed modem. Now the last few day my ISP has been having issues so my wired connection is unstable and barely usable, while they fix the issues with their network i have been using my Iphone to get net axs, but to do so i have to disable the onboard NIC so win7 will access the net through my Iphone. The only problem is i need access to my NAS unit while i'm online but since i have to disable my on board NIC for windows to use my Iphone to get on the internet i cannot have both networks active at the same time. So my question is how can i have my NIC active to access my local network and NAS while using my Iphone to access the internet? I cannot seem to find any sort of settings telling windows which adapter to use to connect to the internet, it defaults to my onboard NIC if its active.

any help would be great.

I'm using the Iphone "personal hotspot" function to get internet access while my highspeed is down, it shows up as "network 2" in my network&sharing center, and as "apple mobile Ethernet device" under the "change adapter settings" in the sharing center. What i want to be able to do is tell windows to use the Iphone for the internet while keeping my wired network active so i can access my NAS. but so far i can only get windows to use the Iphone for the internet if i disable my on board Ethernet adapter, hence i lose access to my local network and NAS unit.

enable the network cable adapter. After that do the follwing command in "command prompt"

Code:
ipconfig/all >output.txt
start output.txt
Post that info. After that you can delete output.txt
Code:
del output.txt

  1. In http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/783-elevated-command-prompt.html :
    Code:
    route delete 0.0.0.0
  2. reestablish (disconnect/connect) the tethering connecting to the iphone.
  3. Generate the ipconfig output again and post it.
  4. internet works? Can you send/recieve from NAS?

Post output of command:
Code:
route -4 print

In your previous output I see 2 default gateways. It's 172.20.10.1 and 192.168.1.1. The second one is the home router. That second one "wins" because it has a higher so called metric. It has a higher metric because the cable is faster then over the air.

Result: All network traffic with destination 172.20.10.0/255.255.255.240 will be routed to the item. All traffic to 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 will be routed to 192.168.1.1

All other destinations will be routed to 192.168.1.1

You only have to delete that route!
