How to read data from a faulty HDD

after installing the cable go to the disk manager and update the list. the new HDD would be appear, then go to the disk management and label the new hdd that has found... it may takes time to find the HDD because of the bad sector, let it do it.

But be carefull. I think i read in another thread that this can damage the mobo if not done correctly

Better check the physical disk first. Has it partitions, if not... maybe they can be recovered. Has it bad blocks on surface.

All can be done with partition wizard.

Will do as you say. But not now, because i am running partition recovery wizard, and for 10 minuets it hassdon only 0% so that means it will be left over the night. I will delete all of the data after the test is done. Now the bad hdd isn't appearing as unallocated, but as a logical type, and bad disk...

Do you mean it found a logical partition? Is it type NTFS? What's the size?

It's not a NFTS type, it says that it's a logical drive type; file system is BAD DISK; capacity is 149 gb; unused 0b; status : None

after 3 hours of testing (I had to repeat the test this morning, because the power went out over the night) it has done 12% and none partitions appeared... so i closed the setup and came back here.

Keep it running... It will go on for as much as 5hrs, if it does find a partition it will tell you i think... report back if it does

Whole disk was 1 partition? No unallocated space at beginning?

logical is normal and no problem. If it doesn't know the file system it can't determin what is used/unused and says unused 0bytes.

So there is 1 partition on that disk? It occupies all the space on physical disk, so disk capacity is 149GB?

Yes, the drive has 1 partition, and the partition recovery wizard is showing that the dive has 149.03 GB of space. Every option is grayed out and I can't do any surface test, or partition deleting, etc, etc, etc... all i can do is the partition recovery that i have done before, and witch has done 12% for 3 hours...

I had some success with using cheap 6$ external usb hard drive adapters from microcenter,
as hooking up a bad drive is a little more forgiving in usb then straight on the sata port.
Hasnt always worked, one drive I have is completly useless.. but 2 others I was able to have them active long enough to get off my files.

You did boot from parition wizard boot CD? If so,.... only thing you can do is make a picture with a photocamera or smartphone.

Did you do full scan?

I thought minitool sees it as 149GB partition?

Once again... is it a problem if you lose everything on that disk?
