Are you booted to win7 now? Is winxp disk also connected? If so... what is the winxp drive letter (from wihtin win7)?

What registry key do you want to examine?

On what computer are you going to recover it (win7, win8, vista for example)? If you attach the old winxp disk with the registry... what drive letter does that disk have?

You want information that's in the winxp partition's registry? Did you reformat that partition?

You could try MiniTool Power Data Recovery Personal

The Lost Partition Recovery module is designed to recover data after partition loss or deletion. The user may accidentally delete an important partition when using partition management software (for example: Partition Wizard). It could also happen when the user reinstalls Windows to a hard drive.

Right now you can get it for free at the link above.
You do have to enter an email address to get free software from Windows Deal.

Hi siluet206,

I am just plain curious.

1. Were you able to download the 100% discounted MiniTool Power Data Recovery Personal? ( I missed it since that offer has expired by the time I got into this thread and looked at it.:()

2. What happened to your Windows XP? And why did you format that drive?

3. What exactly do you want to recover from the Registry? ( Hope that is not a Pentagon secret. :D)

( Sometimes curiosity can get the better of me. :))

Coming to Registry Recovery, provided you have just stopped with formatting the drive and haven't overwritten anything further, you should be able to bring the drive back to the condition it was prior to formatting, by using the MiniTool Partition Recovery Wizard in Partition Wizard.

If the drive is successfully restored, we can use a forensic Windows Registry Recovery to get at the registry.

(Most of the time, the Data Recovery software require that you copy the found files/partition to another drive. If successful, you may be able to get to the registry location and so I have no reservations if you want to give it a try first as suggested by DavidE. :))

I edited my previous post to show the 100% discounted / free offer has expired.
These freebie offers are short-lived, a few days at most ... :(

MiniTool does have a free version that can recover 1 GB of data:
MiniTool® Power Data Recovery Free Edition - Free to recover 1 GB data

Good idea about using MiniTool Partition Recovery.
If the OP has a System Backup Image of XP, using that is another possibility.
