Solved How to remove just Outlook from Office 2010

Greetings;
I would appreciate some advice from anyone who has tried -- successfully or unsuccessfully -- to remove a component of Office 2010 WITHOUT uninstalling the whole suite and then reinstalling it excluding that particular component.

Specifically, I want to remove Outlook (I thought I custom installed without Outlook... but there is is!) I have read at several help sites that a single Office 2010 component may be easily removed by going to the "Programs and Features>Install or change a Program" panel, selecting "Office 2010," then selecting the "Change" button and following to a list of components that may be selected or unselected.

BUT, I have also read (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/e...programs-and-components-HA010354261.aspx)that individual components may not be removed without uninstalling the whole suite and then deselecting during a custom reinstall.

Recounts of any related experience with this procedure would be appreciated. I am also not sure what to expect when/if I get to the final "Change" option panel. I am not sure if I am expected to check the box of the component I want to remove... or to UNcheck it.

Use the Change button in Control Panel>Programs and Features after selecting Office 2010. Deselect Outlook and any other components you don't want, but keep the Tools as they can be needed for maintenance and repairs.

I just tried it, I had Outlook and Publisher installed and I don't use them so I went to Control Panel>Programs and Features, selected Office 2010, clicked Change, deselected Outlook and Publisher and they were removed without any fuss or bother.

Thanks to strollin and gregrocker for taking time to respond. The procedure worked well -- even removing the icon from the Start list. Afterweard Ccleaner found a couple minor registry issues to fix.

Just for clarification, the final step is not so much in "deselecting," as it is in selecting the "not available" option made visible after clicking the down-arrow for Outlook.

(Still puzzled by the page from "office.microsoft.com" saying that individual components may not be removed!??)

Does anyone know how i can completely delete or uninstall Outlook.com? I normally use Win Live Mail for email but also have an Outlook acct set up. I am having email problems caused by Outlook which i havent been able to solve and i would rather just get Outlook out of my PC but Microsoft gives no direction on how to do that or at least i havent been able to find it. I dont have any version of MS Office in my PC.I cant find anywhere in the Outlook settings the ability to delete or Uninstall it and it is doing something which is controlling my Win Live Mail and rejecting emails being sent to me by my friends etc. Im no computer technician but i have generally been able to research and work through most of my computer problems for many years. This time i have run out of places to look so i hope someone can help me. I would like to close my Microsoft account completely but cant find anywhere how to do that either. I am using Windows 7 OS. Thanks for any help anyone can provide. I may have to format my hard drive and start over if all else fails but that is a last resort.

Outlook.com is a website. Websites aren't installed or uninstalled.

If it's set as your Home Page then you can change that in Internet Options by inserting a different Home Page URL (address). Look also at the Add-Ons on the Tools icon for Internet Explorer or Firefox for Outlook or Bing to disable on any tab including Search services which I would set to Google and disallow any changes.

If its installed components like Bing then look for them in Programs and Features to uninstall.

thanks for the suggestions but i dont use IE or Firefox...only Chrome and MyYahoo is my home page. Dont use Bing either and always keep my default programs and my Chrome settings cleaned up to make sure nothing i dont want sneaks in. Yesterday i did finally find a place to close my Microsoft acct completely which will automatically also delete Outlook.com, but not for 60 days to give me a chance to change my mind. I dont really use any of the MS services you get with an MS acct so once the additional 60 days has expired i should be all set. Appreciate the help.

gregrocker...i am back and have still been unable to solve my outlook.com email problem. I did completely close my Microsoft acct last week hoping it would also eliminate my outlook.com email [email protected] and result in the error messages not showing up anymore, but in spite of the closing i am continuing to get the same error message on BOTH EMAILS I SEND AND EMAILS I RECEIVE..from people on my contacts list. Otherwise i routinely receive other emails on things like newsletters, or from places i make purchases etc without the error message showing up. I also uninstalled the OUTLOOK app from my Nexus 10 but i still get the error messages on it as well.
I dont know what else to do. I used to use the outlook.com email address to send emails occasionally,but stopped doing so about 3 months ago.
The error message i receive says...This message was undeliverable due to the following reason.
"Each of the following recipients was rejected by a remote mail server.The reasons given by the server are included to help you determine why each recipient was rejected."
Recipient..my [email protected]
Reason..Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable.

Any thoughts or suggestions you have would be appreciated. I guess i am on the verge of formatting my hard drive to clean it out and start fresh but i hate to resort to that if i can avoid it.

You've posted in a Solved thread about Office. Please start a fresh thread in our Mail forum so that someone familar with Windows Live Mail can help you better. Be sure to put the exact problem in the title so it will attract someone's attention who knows the issue.

I don't use Windows Live Mail but much prefer to get my mail in the web mailbox that provides my mail service directly with unlimited storage, so it is accessible from any device without having to have it popped. I do like the new Mail app in Windows 10 which does all the popping itself behind the scenes so you only need to sign into each of your web mail services to have them brought together in one app. I've never found Windows Mail to be this easy.
