Solved migrating/upgrading from Office 2013 to 2016 settings question

I have Office 2013 on my desktop PC (standalone install not office 365)
I have Office 2016 available via work and want to install it to have the latest shiny and all that

My main issue is being able to preserve all the accounts and settings in Outlook
Will an over the top install preserve these or will I lose them all?

In the past I recall I could export a registry key of the profile, edit a number fro 12 to 15 (for office 2013) and then import this key - do I have to do the same but change the version number to 16 instead?

Hi wigwam12, welcome to the Forum.

These 2 website might help you with changing from Office 2013 to Office 2016. They both deal with Outlook. Read through them & to be safe make a back up of your current Outlook 2013 settings.

I'd already read those articles before posting this thread - still don't quite have the assurance I need about what I do or don't need to do

There are probably not many people that have updated Office from 2013 to Office 2016 at this stage. You mentioned that you can get Office 2016 from work, so see if anyone at your workplace has changed over & what experience they had.

Otherwise you will have to try it. Before you make the change write down all your email account settings for each of your internet providers & copy all your Outlook Folder .pst files so you can migrate those later if necessary.

Feedback as promised.
It was pretty painless. I installed it with 2013 still in place using the rationale that there can only be 1 version of Outlook at a time and it worked.
I had Office 2016 and Office 2013 on the machine but only Outlook 2016 which had all the settings retained.
I then uninistalled Office 2013 and then to be safe did a "repair" of Office 2016 and eveyrthing is tickety boo
