How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8

Are they some new updates to add to the list since 7/14/2015? The update KB3065987 should or should that not be installed if you are not upgrading to windows 10 it was listed in the optional. I don't want to inadvertently upgrade my windows 7 retail partition to windows 10. I am already for windows 10 rtm since I upgrade my Windows 7 oem partition to windows 10 preview. I want to keep triple booting for awhile.

It should not be installed if you do not want to go to Win 10.

That's definitely a new one to add to the list.
I wouldn't worry too much about accidentally installing 10 though. Even if it did download, you'd still have to go through a number of clicks (like accepting EULA) before it'll install the upgrade.

Hi, friends.

Personally, I have various reasons of why I would not install a new Windows version upgrade online.
1. I have a wifi internet connection that allows me only 10 GB / month. I suspect that such a download would, if not exceed, at least eat all my allotted bandwidth for the month. Plus, any download/install hiccups might happen. I prefer to buy the Windows 10 CD, and install it this way.
2. I have no idea what the new Windows 10 is about, and I am still comfortable with Windows 7.
3. The gwx.exe is therefore just an annoying service eating my computing resources.

I usually don't let the Windows Updates to perform automatically in the background, so I put the service on "manual", and I do my Windows Updates once/month, on request.

The KB3035583 I have to admit, was sneaky, and installed with another bunch of "recommended" already marked updates.

Once I found out which update activated the gwx.exe, the removal was simple.
On the Administrator account, opened up the Control Panel -> Programs and Features.
On the left pane, clicked on "View Installed Updates", located and highlighted KB3035583, and clicked on the Uninstall button.

The only fit I got was at reboot (to finalize the uninstall) when it froze at "Please don't shut down your PC" screen, I left it like that for 30 min, then forced shut down.

When I started the machine, I got invited to restart in Safe Mode, but I chose to restart Normal mode.
On my next Windows Upgrade, I will take care to "hide" KB3035583 update so I will not install it again.

That was it.

I didn't install it. It installed on it's own. Woke up my PC & there it was telling me a restart was needed to complete install. Can't quite figure that out, but I swear I did not install it.

Actually, yeah, there is a big deal. While I can just keep hiding the miserable, misbegotten piece of sorry work, it's extremely annoying (polite tem) that MS continues to ignore the wishes of people to not have anything foisted on them again their will. MS has becoming nothing more than a lowdown, rotten spammer, forcibly ramming crap down our throats. Because of the highly intrusive, arrogant attitude MS has adopted, Win 7 and Office 2010 are extremely likely the last MS products I will ever own unless they get off their collective high horses and stop trying to be Apple.

I've had a few just sitting quietly in the queue collecting digital dust ie11/ Skype/ Silverlight and now kb2952664
I see no need for the hardening update to stop other users from loading win-10 I'm the only user
Other members have their own machine to do as they wish

No problem that's what we're here for
But if other users are on the same machine or you let others use your user account you'd run into issues like this
There should only be 1 administrator account on a single machine
Change their to a standard account
Uncheck the box in your account to let All users update windows on the previous tutorial instructions

I've had MS install updates and change my update settings every once in a great while, maybe twice every three years. I'm the only user on my machines.

Hmm, never had any issue such as Windows Update settings changing on their own (6 years of Windows 7 usage), but I accept it as a reality for some. And I am one that installs pretty much everything. Skype and Silverlight hidden, only come back with new versions, as such not a bothersome issue to re-hide.
