Does anyone know how to remove the little two people icon that appears on the drives when you share them.

I don't like them and am on a network with 2 networks.

Tell me if you know how to. I remember I changed a registry entry when I had vista, I know have Win7 and want to know how to get rid of them.

Lots of research and still no solution.

This works with Vista and it might works with Seven
Go to Regedit and make sure you create restore point before applying this

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Network\SharingHandler\
Name : (Default)
Type: REG_SZ
Modify the value and copy this into the value data

"msshrui.dll" for Windows 9x/Me, "ntshrui.dll" for Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista
After editing the registry, you need to restart your PC.

feel free to ask :)

Hey, thanks for responding.

I do remember doing that for Vista but not working in 7. When I went to the key it was already ntshrui.dll

I changed it to empty and still it showed it. (I restarted after each edit)

So now I'm going to go into safemode and try to delete anything pointing to the ntshrui.dll icon. I found a protected one called Sharing and Private Sharing so I'm thinking thats it.

Will let you know results soon.

It didn't work. The strings are protected.

I feel this has something to do with it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\Windows.Share

And others near it like:
Windows.SharePrivate

Theres a icon in there pointing to ntshrui.dll -119
So It might be it.

I get error (icon being the string)

Cannot edit Icon. Error writing the values new content.

Someone help!

if that's the case why you take ownership of it and then edit your reg

Take Ownership

Thanks for you time. Hopefully someone else knows how to fix it.

You would think it would be simple.

How about compiling the .dll without the share icon or make it transparent. Would that work?

Theres got to be a way of doing this via registry. Ill wait for more answers.

as long you got the ownership of required dll in this case ntshrui.dll.

You can edit it using Reshack and replace with the original one. I'm just saying but it might be risky. :(

Thanks for all your help. Your a champ!

The Take_Ownership wouldn't work on my account so I went into the administrator account (activate by typing:

net user administrator /active:yes

into cmd that you ran as administator.

Next I tried to replace the .dll with my .dll with one icon gone (7 icons total I think) then I restarted and found it was still there. So instead of trying again I decided to rename ntshrui.dll to ntshrui.dll.bak so that its not there. Worked perfectly, network is still running no icon.

Only downside is that you don't have the lock icon and some others(which are useless in my opinion)

What I did was a workaround but the fix would be to remove the single icon via Reshack.

Thanks again!
