How to run CHKDSK /r

When I go to the Command line an enter CHKDSK /r it says can not run while system is in use. Then it asks, Would you like to run next System starts? y/n I entered y and restarted but CHKDSK did not run.

Try first chkdsk c: that will test the drive but not fix any errors but will give you a report so you know if there are problems. Then if you want to fix type chkdsk c: /r

Ran CHKDSK in read only mode and it did not find any errors, then I ran CHKDSK /r and it said can not run while System is in use. Do you want to run CHKDSK next time System starts/ y/n I enter y and restarted the System. CHKDSK did not appear to run when the System restarted. Maybe it ran so quickly I didn't notice it ran.

How to run CHKSDSK /r

I found a tool in Macrium Reflect that ran CHKDSK /r. After running it backup worked. It seems that running CHKDSK /r at start-up failed. I wonder why?
