How to setup raid 0 with SSD

Hi,
I recently bought my new computer, and it came with two RealSSD C300 256 GB.
I want to set up raid 0 to have one drive with 512 GB. I really don't mind the performance boost, i just want to have one partition with 512 GB.
I already have it on RAID mode, but whenever the Marvel screen appears, i already tried pressing CTRL M, CTRL R, CTRL I, Space, none of those seem to work.

I own the Maximus IV Extreme motherboard.

What do i do?

Hi,

You cannot have a single partition of 512GB using standard RAID architecture - the RAID0 will still only be 256GB in size. It sounds like what you are after is a JBOD.

EDIT : Actually, I've had a mad moment, I was thinking about RAID1, my apologies. You can do that with a RAID0. Have you tried using the Intel RAID controller? Are you comfortable with the risk inherent in a RAID0 setup?

Yes, i am comfortable with the risk. How do i use the intel RAID controller? The one time i had to setup raid, all i had to do was press CTRL M, configure the raid type, select volume, and it was done.

Now i press CTRL M, I , R and space, even f6 but nothing happens.

if i'm not mistaking you have to set the controller to raid in your bios first . then when booting you should see press ctrl + i . that will let you setup your drives.

Nevermind that, i had to dig in a little deeper in the BIOS setting to find another RAID setting. But now i am seeing Options like Stripe Size, quick init and Cache Mode. What do i choose? Writethru or Writeback in cache mode, also what stripe size?

If you want 1 partition spanning 2 drives you have to use spanned volumes, also called dynamic disks. But I really fail to see the purpose of that.

I managed to make Raid 0 work, i created a VD with 64kb Stripe Size, Write back.
But, the windows installer is not recognizing it, while the boot section of the bios is.

What do i do? Should i install any driver?

You have to install the driver at the windows setup when it asks for it. When you see the drives at the setup asking where you want to put windows.

If you can't see it in there something is a miss.

do you have the drivers ? if so install them at wndows setup and see if that helps.

That didn't do it. I contacted crucial and they told me to update the firmware. I however made a huge mistake, i didn't check my Firmware version assuming it was 001. It was actually 006, and i "updated" it to 002. Now, when i boot my computer, the Bios screen after the Marvell loading one, kind of freezes, unabling me to enter the bios. I changed from 6 GB sata to 3 GB sata, and now it freezes for one minute, and loads normally. However, the SSD won't be detected by the controller. The bios will though.

So whenever i am on the bios, i can choose two of those drives. But, when i try to update it to 006 it says no drives could be found. Also, when the marvell controller is loading, it also says no hard drives could be found.

What do i do? I have tried setting it to IDE Compatible, AHCI and Raid, but no good results. Any kind of feedback will be appreciated.
