Hi,
I really need some advice on this!

I've tried to use SkyDrive to share an Excel file simultaneously with my business partner and it will not work because it doesn't play nicely with his XP Pro nor with his Excel 2007. I have Excel 2010 and Win7; so no problems here.

I've just read about using SharePoint; but it seems that it would not work from a Web server but instead needs a Shared Network folder. Which I guess in our case means a VPN. Which I understand is hard to install. I was initially excited about the SharePoint approach because it says (in the last sentence) that it will work with any version of Excel. Here's the link:
Share a workbook - Excel - Office.com

So, after a lot of time on this -- I'm batting zero.

Is there any other practical way we can share an Excel file?

I will sure apprecite all suggestions!

/ GE

What is the filetype that you saved it as? can you try saving it as an older format? there should be options in when you "save-as" select a filetype for Excel 2007

There are a few different options for this. from workbook to macro enabled workbook etc.

If all else fails, you could copy the fields into a google doc. create a generic gmail account and go to google docs create a new spreadsheet and paste the fields in there. give him the account/pass or set the view settings to allow users to view the document.

Hi,

Thanks very much for all the good suggestions. Because of the older versions of the Operating System and Excel; I've decided to explore using FileZilla to share the files. If this works out it will not matter what type of file I'm sharing and will avoid all the frustrations of trying to share Excel workbooks by using SkyDrive. My observation, is if all parties have the latest Office version and at least Win7; then using SkyDrive is a dream -- otherwise, it can be a nightmare.

So, far the testing is good. But I'll report back if any problems occur.
My regards,
/ GE
