How to share files via Ethernet Cable?

I have Laptop and Desktop (windows 7 ultimate)
I use it to play games, But I wanna transfer my Games (files) to my new laptop using Ethernet Cable or Crossover cable. I lost my 16 gb USB so I just transfer via Ethernet Cable but How?
Please help me.

Razer, Are both computers connected to a router or switch?
If so, then you can turn on sharing and using the same userid, you can map a drive on one computer
to another and then just copy the files, Of course if there are hidden files then you have to have all that
turned on in control panel. Folder Options.

Can you see the other computer on your network? also are they both on the same network,

Razer, takes more than a cable to exchange files. Are both computers connected to the same router? and what is the ip and domain/workgroup settings, they have to be the same workgroup/domain.

Where do you get your IP for your machines? Has to be something handing out IP's via dhcp.

Also, what are the ip's for each machine? ipconfig will tell you.

we don't have the same ip, My IP is : 192.168.0.10 but on my laptop is 192.168.0.20

If those are the specified IP addresses then that's fine. Normally if your machine cannot get a request from a DHCP server (Router) it will generate an autoconfiguration 169.254.xxx.xxx for local communication.

If you are connecting directly to each machine then you need a crossover cable for communication to function.

Once that is done then you can create a shared folder and transfer files and folders to it

   Note

When accessing the share make sure to use the IP address instead of the computer name since you will not have a DNS server.

\\192.168.0.20\{share}

not Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8

Same steps still apply for accessing the share. Creating the share in Windows 7 is the same as Windows 8

There's no Windows 8 to 7 or 7 to 8

Right click the folder> Sharing > Advanced sharing

Accessing the share is the same as well. Although Windows 7 and Windows 8 have it's differences the core components of it are the same
