How to Show PC movie on TV

I know this is pretty stupid but there is no such thing as a stupid question (right); well I constantly watch ppl send thier laptop, iphone and pc movies to thier tvs with a flick/touch of the fingers, how do they do it. I have about 1.5 TB of movies and currently copy to flash drive and watch thru the dvd but would just like to send directly from my pc to my tv which has wireless connection. I can watch netflix or other sources on it. Is there a tutorial or something than can explain in detail how to do it. I'm old and a little slow but after doing it once I usually have it figured out, any help is appreciated, thanks.

Not sure about wireless, but I connect my PC to my HDTV with an HDMI cable.

First of all, does your TV have HDMI input? If so, you could get a Miracast adapter that plugs into the TV that will allow you to direct the output of your PC to your TV wirelessly. However, in order for Miracast to work, you will need a wifi adapter for your PC. Miracast is also known as "HDMI over wifi".

Windows media player will also stream to your tv. Not sure what your tv uses, I use a ROKU. This article shows enabling streaming via WMP

My nephew has a roku too it's pretty cool,
He was running roku through Linux
Allot of free channels but most of the good ones are subscription but I didn't look at all of the free ones very carefully
Worth looking into,
Nothing like the picture quality of hdmi though

I couldn`t imagine trying to do it wirelessly, wouldn`t there be pixalation, stuttering and all that going on ?

I agree, the Roku is 1080p. I use the free Roku Media Player app, stream my movies to my TV

Back then, before I got HDMI, once in a while, I had to convert from normal DVD to mp4, or vice-versa, I used WinDX tools. Now, with HDMI, such conversions are almost unheard of [being needed].

Just want to send my movies in mkv to tv without cables. People are just sending what ever is on their laptop straight to tv wirelessly so why not from pc. Thanks

Don't want to do that, using wireless hdmi from LR TV to br tv and no problems so a wireless connection shoul be possible fro pc to main tv.

Nope, even wireless is good. I stream 1080p hd quality over wireless.

That's why I suggested the Miracast adapter. It will do what you want. I read yoour system specs and see that you have a desktop PC so assumed it didn't have wifi which is why I mentioned you need wifi on the PC and the Miracast on the TV to make it work.

Please elaborate on your statement regarding using wireless HDMI to send from LR TV to BR TV. How are you doing that? Maybe your TV has Miracast built-in. What brand/model TV do you have?

Actually sending the wireless signal from dish box throught hdmi wireles transmitter to receiver on other tv. (1 wired 1 wireless) Also I have wifi plugin on pc. Panasonic 54G25. Will be doing more research on this miracast but this surely can't be the easiest way to send pc to tv. Thanks

Yea roku you have to wonder if isp's would eventually block the devices access to content
Especially if that isp provides t.v. services
Allot of bad reviews on roku 3's allot of good kind of a coin toss :/

Hi there

some smart TV's can browse the media files on a remote computer - and play with their own built in Media player. Otherwise use the "media Server" or equivalent on the TV and stream either with MEZZMO (paid for app) or PLEX (free). PLEX also works on Linux. VLC can also stream direct to a smart TV but it's a bit more fiddly.

Another method is by using a mobile phone -- play on the phone and then Mirror to the TV screen either via a dongle or by a smart app.

For non smart TV's connect via HDMI cable. If the TV is really old it might still have an old MONITOR (RGB) type connector -- if you use that you'll have to get the AUDIO via the headphone output of the computer to an Audio in (analog) of the TV -- however the chances are that a laptop won't have an old RGB connector any more. HDMI is the easies for non smart TV's or a media server for Smart TV's.
