Solved How to solve hibernate not working with Samsung NVME SSD

Just want to share here. Recently I found hibernate or hybrid sleep is not working on my newly built desktop pc. When I perform hibernate, the pc shuts down instead. When the pc starts, it shows Windows Error Recovery screen with message "Windows did not shut down successfully".

Have tried some solutions from internet but nothing works. However in Windows 10 there is no issue at all.

Eventually I found a post in tomshardware where the poster mentioned he had same issue after replacing the ssd. It raises my suspicion since I'm using samsung m.2 nvme ssd but still using microsoft nvme driver. So then I installed the samsung nvme driver, and voila, the hibernate/hybrid sleep is working now.

So if anyone has windows 7 installed on the samsung nvme ssd, you might want to install the manufacturer driver to prevent this issue.

Its hardly a tutorial, more a tip to install a samsung nvme driver for a samsung nvme device. Device drivers 101.

True but, if it was moved to the Tutorial section, it would be indexed, making it easier for people to come across. As is, it will be but a few weeks before this thread gets buried by subsequent threads, making it less likely to be seen by others.

A point that should be noted is that Samsung, in their earlier SSDs, of which I have a Samsung 840 Pro, & you use the Samsung Magician software will prevent Hibernate mode as it causes unnecessary writes to the SSD.

That argument implies that every good tip here at SF should sit in the Tutorial sub-section, which isn't feasible. Thankfully search engines are smart enough to index information across several thousands of boards.

Same with new 860 Evo 1TB, magician migrated old M4 256 SSD, but did not copy the hibernation/fast on/start partition, on Samsung 5ultra i7 laptop with original recovery manager 5 installed. Copied hidden backup partition though.

After install/boot, Magician just says "this drive is not supported", with only interface, ahci, trim, rapid, info given, only system compatibility and benchmark options. Nothing else available for drive. Also says "RAPID mode not supported" but I guess that is just Ramdisk I dont want anyway.

I want the option of hibernate when I need it, to simply close lid and go and save max battery, and start where I left off by opening lid later. As originally from Samsung. I dont care about supposed excessive writes. The M4 drive and only 8gb RAM was used every day 2012~2019 with hibernate occasionally as required, and the drive wear was only 12% over 6yrs with no issues ever.

I also want this new drive supported by the manufacturers recommended software.
