Solved How to stop auto-maximizing windows

I dunno how else to explain it, but whenver I move a window to the top of the screen, it freakin' auto-maximizes it. It's driving me NUTS! How do I turn it off?

Click on the IE icon that you use to bring up your homepage. Mine is tacked to the task bar. Yours may be on your desktop or your start menu. Right click. You get a menu that shows the IE icon, again. Right click, click properties; you will see run with a choice of maxiamize normal etc. Take your choice. You probably do not want normal or maximized.

That is a function of Aero Snap. It works for the top, left and right sides of the screen. If you don't want it to maximize, just don't completely hit the top edge of the screen. You could turn Snap off, but I don't recommend it as it's a GREAT new feature, especially for setting up side by side windows. Play with it, you'll get the hang of it.

yes as MacGyvr said.. once you get the hang of it you will/should love it. Shack that same window and it will hide the others and then snap to medium size right in the middle of your screen. It actually has a couple movements built into it. not just maximizes it.

Drag to the right and you can set a couple windows up at the same time and same size.. etc etc..

This tutorial below can help show you how to turn Aero Snap off to prevent it from maximizing when the pointer hits the top of the desktop screen while dragging it up.

Auto Snap a nuisance

I'm afraid I have to disagree regarding the usefulness of the auto snap function.

I am often working on a 14" laptop so space is a premium. When trying to put two windows side-by-side (i.e. Windows Explorer), I find myself constantly frustrated by the window touching the upper right side of the suddenly maximizing and covering up my entire window. I have to keep re-positioning the window until I get it as close as I can to the top without it maximizing.

Very, very annoying.

I haven't tried it on my 20" desktop yet, but I'm glad there is a way to turn it off.

If you're trying to get them side by side, then drag each window to the opposite side of the screen. Aero Snap will make them both take up half the screen next to each other.
