How to stop restarts without consent

Hi Everyone

I have just installed a program on my computer called CopyTrans which required the installation of some drivers. At the end of the installation, the installation program unexpectedly restarted my computer without even asking if it was ok to restart it, thus causing me to lose a lot of unsaved work. This makes me extremely angry and I think that this is a highly unethical way to design an installation program. Anyway, does anyone know if there is a registry setting or some other method in Windows 7 which can make it impossible for any software on my computer to restart my computer without my permission?

Thank you very much.

Kind regards

Tim

I would look for Settings or Advanced Settings options in the CopyTrans program.

See How to edit advanced settings in CopyTrans Manager for a few tips.
Hi Iko22

Thank you very much for your reply. However, this is not a satisfactory solution because how can I configure the program before I have installed it? The problem I described occurred immediately upon installation.

I am looking for a setting in Windows 7 which will prevent any third party software from restarting my computer without warning.

Does anyone else have the answer?

Thank you very much.

Kind regards

Tim

Sorry I misunderstood that part of your question.

The only Windows 7 setting that I am aware of is User Account Control (UAC) Enable/Disable. UAC is there to prevent programs from making changes to the computer without user permission. You could check to see what state the UAC setting is set to on your computer :ar: User Account Control - UAC - Change Notification Settings . If this setting is switched off, then programs do not need user permission to make changes to the computer.

Hope that helps.
