How can I stop WMP12 from opening the last file that was played when I load up a new instance of WMP12? Say I watch a video, close WMp, I click the WMP icon to load the player up, it wants to continue playing the video where I left off. I disabled it before a long time ago, but just reformatted and its doing it again and I cant remember how I did it! Thanks

Maybe uncheck everything related to "History" / "Recent" played files...in the WMP options (right click an empty space of the taskbar=>Tools=>Options=>confidentials)

Try the following:

1. Open Windows Media Player 12 (wmp 12) from start Menu
2. Now click on Organize and go to Options
3. Under Options, Select Privacy tab
4. Now under Privacy tab look at History Section
5. Click on “Clear History” to clear Frequent/Recent List of Windows Media Player 12
6. Uncheck Music, Pictures, Videos & Playlist.

Though I just closed the wmp file via task manager, and when I reload it, it does not continue anymore. Seems like the task isnt closing all the way when I close WMP?

Have you installed or updated anything recently that might have coincided with this behavior change? Or has it always done this?

Umm wierd. It seems if I click the X to close, the file will remain open, and continue when I reopen WMP via start menu etc, but if I go to file/exit, then it does not

Oops...was "Under Options, Select Privacy tab".
Sorry for that misspelling:o.

You shouldn't have this annoying last file playing, now.
