How to study?

Hi guys, I need your advice on how to study to pass exam, the topic is "Operating Systems" I have lecturer notes as weel as book in .cht format. But what I am asking is a maybe some thechnique(s) to study? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

I do my study in 2 ways. First read the chapter and understand the concept and interpret them in my own words.

If I am lazy, I go to my friends place who is very studious and ask him to tell the chapter like a story. Then interpret them in the exam.

I agree with joel..reading something from computer will never work. Someway or the other it distracts a lot.

The thing is that material to study is application based, to print it all would be expensive option (75 pdf pages), and chm file is over 1000 pages. Anyway thanks for advices.

Just wanted to enforce what Dre@ms said: focus on concepts.

Too often study consists of trying to memorizing data in the abstract; for a while, one may be able to recall some of the unassociated data but not for long. When one fully understands the concepts, the data almost naturally present within the discussion.

Thanks Monk, you are absolutely right. For now it's all about passing exam. There is no time to get knowledge as such.

One other thing I do is have a conversation with myself about a topic as if someone asked me a question. In answering the question, I might even try to dazzle myself with the thoroughness of my answer. If I do not recall an "impressive" piece of info as I am talking, I look it up.

Otherwise, I think you can only rely on rote memory.

That OS book with the dinosaurs? That thing rocks.

I thought my school was the only one to use it.

Anywhoo. Read the material and consider the class notes. IDK how your teacher taught, but mine taught mostly with class notes and not much from the book itself.

Reinforce what seems to be the most important information through notes and the book. You can do well. I did.

+5 Thanks WHS. Thats some good info to absorb.

Also as computer screens can strain your eyes, take frequent breaks. otherwise, you end up hurting and taking a break at the end equivelent or longer than the total amounts of breaks.

Another good way to study is to write things down as you read them. This re-enforces what you have just read.
