How to track stolen laptop with serial number

Guys,

An unfortunate incident happened as my laptop got stolen. I dont have the MAC Id but I do have the serial number. Is there any way of tracking it ?

If you haven’t already installed the necessary service or registered the machine to a service, then it’s now too late to activate those services to track down your lost hardware.

Now a days every laptop has a in-built network card and every card has a unique address on it mac address like we have in mobile phones. So, if that laptop gets connected to the Internet it can be traced to that address. Your hardware manufacturer can give u this address. but the way this companies behave for simple warranty, u wont bother. Moreover this process is near impossible in general circumstances. There are may software available even from open source community for free for tracing( cant remember its name). Next time install one of those. you may go to the police and maybe they will catch the thief. Best thing somehow get ur mac address from up vendor and hire a hacker.

Your only hope is to report the theft to police.
There is software that can track the laptop but it of course must be installed prior to the theft.
The MAC address does more or less identify the laptop but the problem is that it does not travel on the Internet. The address is only visible within the local network.

Edit: It must be emphasized that all forms of tracking must only be done by law enforcement. Any attempt to do this yourself is dangerous. Law enforcement agencies have warned about this.
