Well i am wondering how do i turn on readyboost in windows 7 i haven't been able to find it. Didn't want to go around ticking things i don't know what they do so i ask here.

Another question if i get readyboost working with 4 gb stick. does that mean i have 4 gb ram more or something else. cause if it does then can i upgrade to x64?

When you first insert you stick one of the options will be something like "use readyboost to boost your system", i also believe if you right click the drive in properties there may be the option but im not using my laptop now (which has my stick in) so can't say for sure..

And no it will not count as ram.

Yup, same for me. My flash drive is capable of readyboost and I had it working on Vista and a previous 7 build. Now on clean install 7022, I insert unformatted stick, and the readyboost tab is in properties. It asks me to use it to make my system faster. Sure I say. Then it says it needs to be formatted, so I make it happy and format to NTFS which it said would be good. Once the format is complete, I check properties again and the readyboost tab is gone. I dunno.

As far as I know it's all about speed. Unlike previous windows, 7 supports Readyboost on flah drives formatted to exFAT. Try this as exFAT is considerably quiker that NTFS, but not as functional (and you don't need functinality for a Readyboost drive)

I have an exFAT formatted 4GB SDHC card running Readyboost on my laptop and it is very quick.

when you format the usb, try device default, which is,FAT, allocation unit size of 32 bytes. Then format to ntfs unit allocation size of 4096 bytes. Which will then give you the readyboost option.
I found that getting the right unit allocation size was the key to getting the usb to be able to use readyboost.
