I need to uninstall Bonjour Service but the instructions on this and other sites are outdated. How do I do it?

All the instructions I can find are from 2009, or contain broken links to remover tools, or refer to Microsoft Fix-It Tool, which no longer exists (now it's just another useless crap Microsoft help site that never tells you anything you don't already know, not a piece of software). And, most of the search results are fake Windows help sites that aren't real sites but are just automatically harvesting posts from other sites and repeating information of completely unknown age and reliability.

Thanks

Are you sure? I just spent an hour reading dozens of posts here and at other sites about how you absolutely, positively CAN NOT use the standard add/remove programs method to get rid of it. They *all* said you can not use add/remove programs for this.

I was trying to explain this in my question: there used to be Bonjour remover tools which were programs written specifically to remove Bonjour and nothing else. Also there used to be MS Fix It. All of these seem to not exist any more.

Also there are command-line instructions for removing Bonjour but those are from around 2008-2009.

Thanks. It's strange how there seems to have lots of discussion about this back around 2009.

On SevenForums the discussions mainly seem to be specific questions about Bonjour interfering with some particular network function - not how to simply get the entire thing off your computer, which is what I want to do.

Download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 7.2

Download and install this, go to where you installed it and run as admin, once its opened scroll down find bonjour and click remove, once done, remove the windows installer cleanup utility as im not exactly a fan of them.
Any problems let us know mate

If you don't mind it being resident on the hard drive (installed) but you just want to keep it from running, why not just simply disable that service. If you use msconfig (type that into the run box from the start menu) to disable it, you are making it completely invisible to Windows (as if it didn't even exist), and you can also turn it back on. Like Devlin said, and if I remember correctly, it installs with Apple software and it is related to Bluetooth connectivity. You're not endangering Windows stability in any way. The worst case scenario is that some bluetooth or the software you installed would no longer work, in which case, I repeat, just turn it back on. If you do try to remove it conventionally and you don't succeed (the service is still resident), I can help you with a command-line to disable or even uninstall the service.

To uninstall Bonjour first disable the Bonjour related service at start/run> services.msc

Then you need to rename a folder in order to remove the Bonjour program entry.

1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Bonjour
2. Rename the mdnsNSP.dll file in that folder to mdnsNSP.old
3. Restart your computer
4. Delete the Program Files\Bonjour folder at C:\Program Files\Bonjour

Run CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download to remove any left over registry entries or temp files.

If you don't mind it being resident on the hard drive (installed) but you just want to keep it from running, why not just simply disable that service.

If you look it up, you'll find post after post after post about Bonjour creating all sorts of quagmires and the importance - and difficulty - of getting it completely, entirely removed from your computer if you don't need it (which I don't).

My computer is running outrageously slow and I'm going through every process and service and installed program to get rid of anything unnecessary. In a situation like this, Bonjour is definitely something to not keep around.

Well I only remember I've had it and I've seen it elsewheres (I know that's not a word!) as well and it did bother me too indeed, but I surely must've gotten rid of it pretty easily, or I'd remember it better... Unless I just reinstalled my system, which I used to do a lot until several years ago (for testing purposes).
