You tried hitting F1 or looking in Speedfan's Help files? Has pretty much everything there. One thing is to uncheck and readings for things that aren't there, and there will should be a few of them (usually easy to tell, the reading is either way to high or the reading is a negative number).

Also you can go here,

SpeedFan Configuration Manager

register and download pre-made user configurations (assuming your board has had at least one config uploaded).

Another thing you can look at is if there's a forum for your manufacturer. I have had a bunch of HP Pavilions. I was buying the Intel Pentium 4 machines(should have gone AMD 64 at the time but I didn't know any better) and they kept locking up due to hitting the temp. that triggered the halt instruction. Turns out there was an Easter Egg key in the BIOS settings not in the user manual, where you could adjust the fan speeds and temp. ranges.

Where I found out was HP Business Forum... just voluntary support by HP users of business class HP machines. Perhaps your manufacturer hosts something similar.
