How to Use Virtual Audio Cable

I'm trying to figure out how to use Virtual Audio Cable to take the sound output from Media Monkey and redirect it to VLC player. The directions on Virtual Audio Cable's website are vague and/or outdated at best and I haven't been able to find anything on the web that tells me how to do it.

Getting the sound from Media Monkey (and everything else, which is ok with me) to the virtual cable is easy but I can't figure out how to get it from there into VLC player since VLC doesn't show up on the sound menu.

Well, there seems to be several products called "Virtual Audio Cable" out there, I'm unsure as to which one you are referring to.

So then, perhaps I have some hints that you can adapt to your own situation:

i) Had you searched Youtube for an independently made tutorial on this product, or contacted the supplier?
ii) Does the virtual cable that you have created, appear in Windows > Sound.
iii) Have you setup VLC options to stream from this new virtual cable?​

i) Yes. found nothing that helped.

ii) Yes

iii) Yes and no. After I sent my original post, I fiddle-fooled (polite term) around in VLC and finally found, under Media, four selections--Open Disc, Open Network Stream, Open Capture Device, Convert/Save, Stream--that all took me to the same window (can we say redundant?). Under the Capture Device Tab, in Audio Device Name, I finally found "Cable Output (VB-Virtual".

However, there are other selections that have me confused and I need help with (VLC's idiot help wiki says nothing about what they are--mutter, mutter, mumble, mumble). Under Capture Mode, I have a choice of Direct Show, TV-Digital, and Desktop. What the big fat hairy heck is Direct Show? I'm guessing I won't need TV-Digital but what about Desktop? How is it different from Direct Show (and how the heck does one send audio to the desktop)?

At the bottom of the window, there is a button with selections for Enqueue (what on Earth is that?), Play, Stream, and Convert. I would guess Play or Stream would be what I want except there is also tha mysterious Enqueue VLC didn't see fit to define?

Would it kill software developers (not to mention hardware manufacturers) to write complete directions?

Desktop convert records the desktop (a bit like Camtasia), and TV refers to any installed TV tuner card.

I have watched a few videos on virtual audio cable myself, and now I do not believe you can do that.

Let me explain my findings. You can use any application (Media Monkey or VLC, etc) to send audio stream (playback) to an output side of a virtual cable. However, only Recording Applications will appear as receivers (recorders) of this stream from an input side of a virtual cable. Hence, VLC is not showing up as a wave out device because the application is not detected as a recorder.
