Just plugged the monitor in HDMI mode, and when I configure it to the native resolution of 1080p it doesnt work properly, it thinks the screen is bigger than the monitor, and by this i mean it scales out of the monitor, so the start menu is way off on the left. should i just give up using hdmi?

Please fill out your system specs(at the bottom of your post), please be very detailed. There may be some settings for configuring this properly, but without knowing what you have, well....

Like James suggested please fill out specs. My guess is that you will have to adjust the overscan option in your display drivers. amd drivers default to a 15% overscan so you'll have to back that down to 0%

Here are the specs:

Motherboard: Sabertooth Z77
CPU: Intel i7 3770
GPU: Intel HD 4000
Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHZ (2x8)
Monitor: HP2509B (Driver installed as HP 2509 Series Wide LCD Monitor)
*Intel Driver Control Panel sees the display as Digital Television 2509 (which I think might be the issue)

I figured it was either overscanning, or udnerscanning, but everytime the resolution is set to 1080p the scale option on the monitor menu goes away.

The motherboard doesn't have DVI, so I had to resort to the HDMI. This monitor works fine on DVI on another computer at the 1920x1080 resolution. But everytime its on the HDMI it bugs out.

Thanks. Its been tough to find control panel pictures online but can you get to the options in the link I provided below? I would be interested in the options under Display/General Settings/Scaling and in Monitor/TV settings. See if there are any settings for 1:1 scaling

Screen Shot below. To make it fit, I have to scale it down from 100 to 62. Which suffice to say, makes the screen look like crap, fonts get smudged.

Is there an option for full screen or center image in the scaling options where you are setting them to custom? I also found this that might help if it is not sticking;
DX Blog - Can not go Full Screen while changing resolution on Laptop or Notebook
Also make sure your monitor is set to to full pixel or 1:1 in its own osd

If nothing works i would recommend trying to make a custom 1080p resolution as you can play with the display timing and underscan options in there. Sorry i could not really help you with this, I hope someone with a similar intel setup can jump in

with that adjustment, in your Windows search bar, type, "adjust Clear type text" and run that setup and see if it fixes the "smudge".

Finally was able to fix it. Had to create a custom resolution (same 1080p), but maybe it works differently. but either way that worked.

Issue with HDMI conection not natively displaying resolution

The solution of creating a custom resolution of 1920x1080 @ 60Hz worked for me as well :)
