A have an HP designjet5000 ps and it Is working with win 7 Photoshop cs. It is not connected to the internet.
I print threw a lynsys router to the 610N jet direct card.
I have the date set back on the computer to 2005 so the HP wont say "Spend Money NOW or I wont Print"
This Win 7 has a core clean non windows-updated installation does not hook to the internet

I am affraid to plug this HP into the main network by changing the IP address on it to match the main network because I fear that because HP removed the windowsxp64 drivers from its website that HP does not want this printer to be a contender to new sales.

So my question is does anyone have an HP Designjet they use to print from the latest versions of Photoshop and Autocad or ms word or Adobe Acrobat.

I am gambling that the current isolated setup I have will remain working for a very long time if its not updated. If I want to print I take a USB flash, copy files to transfer the files to the HP's computer and print.

Anyone have some knowledge experience about this ?
Thank you

I'm sure you are right that it will keep working for a long time. Also, if you ever have a mechanical failure, you can probably get it fixed cheaper than you could buy another plotter. (Start looking now for a good repair shop where you live, if you haven't yet found one.)

But I don't think you need to keep the plotter isolated. You also don't need to connect it to the internet; but the jetdirect connection to your network is a good way to do it if you want more than one computer to be able to print to it.

I went to the HP website and looked up your plotter:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-designjet-5000-printer-series/25300

I found the XP PostScript driver for your plotter, as well as the NT and 2000 drivers. You should download all of these drivers and save them for future use.

As far as how to keep using it into the future, you might try setting up a Windows XP or 2000 Virtual Machine on each computer you want to plot from, then installing the plotter driver in the virtual machine. Then whenever you want to plot something to that plotter, print the plot to PDF; then, in the virtual machine, print the PDF to the plotter in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

I use Samba to share my data drive with the other computers at my house and with my guest session in VMWare Workstation Player.
Use a wireless USB to connect to your network. Name the network address the USB uses as that printer. Assuming you do have working drivers for it, any computer on the network should be able to send a print job to the assigned address. I have done this with an older HP laser printer, using a parallel to USB converter, and a wireless USB port. Works a charm.
