in short, I used software dban to wipe the hd,reinstalled the os, now it will not reconize the hd as a bootable deive, will boot from dvd only but thats all, what steps did I miss or did I do a nonrecoverabl deed.I cannot even open devicemanger to check if its even seeing it at all,or can I use some other hd formating tool, and redo this again, the right way I hope, the reason I did this was they told me the original hd was dead, found a used one a friend had and was tring to get it back up and running for my wife. Please help if you can, thank you

Does the bios see the hard drive ?

You didn`t need to use Dban, you could`ve just formatted the drive.

You should be following the steps to get and keep a perfect http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164, taking note of the Special Note for HP Owners at end.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, confirm the HD is detected on one of the tabs which shows Storage or Boot. Reset to defaults, save changes.

If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install:

Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here. I would use a fresh ISO written with tool in Step 2 as yours is in question.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of wiping the HD and marking Active which overcomes certain install failures.

ok, I did get the new win 7 boot iso downloaded ,did set the bios to boot from cd,could not enter any dos window to create petietion, did go ahead and got the new windows iso installed, but no, the bios do not see any drives,it will let me set the cd to boot, but as to see them on the main bios window no ? I put the oringanal hd in just to see if bios could see it,and no go,does not see any drives on main window.this has more problems than I thought.any ideas as to why bios is not seeing the drives ? thank you, it will try and boot from the hd after the install, trys to setup windows, but then it says it incounterd an erro or unexpectantly rebooted ?
