Today I purchased a brand-new HP Pavilion 15-N214TX notebook. When I got home, I unboxed it, inserted the battery, plugged it into the wall, and powered it on for the very first time. I then saw this message:

HP Battery Alert
The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated below to be very low.
For optimal performance, this battery may need to be replaced.
Primary (internal) Battery (601)
ENTER - Continue Startup
For more information, please visit: www.hp.com\go\techcenter\startup

Windows reports, Plugged in and not charging.

I've removed and re-inserted the battery, gone into the HP Support Assistant application and ran a battery check (only for it to report that it can't find a battery!), and I've ran the pre-boot diagnostics, which also reports that there's no battery inserted. I saw somewhere that you should remove AC power before running the tests. When I pressed the power button while the laptop wasn't plugged into AC, the charging light simply blinked white three times. I could at one point get into the pre-boot diagnostics on battery power, but I still saw the message telling me that no battery was found.

This is a great laptop, it's super fast, software installs quickly, programs open quickly, it shuts down and boots quickly, but this battery issue is a huge letdown. I don't expect this kind of an issue from a brand-new ~$1100 laptop.

Please help!

Perhaps, the manufactures has shipped you faulty battery. Consider placing an RMA order as it's still in warranty.

You just bought it?

Take or send the machine (not just the battery) back and get a replacement
It could be any component - battery, power block, internal connections - I would call this particular machine (not the model) a lemon.
