hi, i have a HP Pavilion DV6-6009TX, i bought it last year during april... initially, it was doing ok, but starting this year around february, the programs that i launch seems to be not responding every now and then... even microsoft word, it freezes for a good 10-20 seconds everytime i save a document, and when i type halfway, it will stop responding and resume after around 15 seconds... the problem is even worst when i try to play games... the game will spike every 5 seconds, making it unplayable... anyone knows what is wrong with my laptop?

Hello lala1990!

It sounds like you've got the classical CPU throttling due to overheating problem... To confirm this download a program like CoreTemp (www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/) and run it while using your system/gaming... note the temperatures...

If they're really high (above 80 - 90 C), try and clear out the dust from the vents of your latptop, and it's innards too if you're brave enough to open the back panel; of course if it's under warranty still you shouldn't do that...

If that doesn't work you could try to use a cooling pad for your laptop, I use one myself and it helped me reduce the temperatures on my laptop by 5 - 6 C....

i have been monitoring the temperature of my system, it's around 57~60 degrees when i'm not gaming... even when i'm not gaming it lags... and to add on to the problem, when i boot up my laptop, it takes more than a minute to get past the windows boot screen to the login screen... my friend's laptop just takes less than 30 seconds... so i'm thinking there's something very wrong with this laptop, but what can possibly the problem? i'm sure there's no overheating problem, as when i'm gaming, the max temperature the cpu rises to is around 70 degrees...

Hmmm.... if it's not a CPU temperature problem, have you tried checking the hard drive or ram for errors? Those micro freezes could indicate it, as you mention it occurs when you save documents; i.e when hard drive accesses are required...

Go to an administrators command prompt, and type in chkdsk c: /r and reboot if required... this may take a long while...

Also to exclude possible windows corruption you could use the system file checker by typing in sfc /scannow at the command prompt beforehand...

ok i managed to call up HP Support and they asked a technician to come down and replaced my hardddisk drive.. in the end, it turns out that the harddisk drive is faulty and is causing all the lag... and also the HP 3D DriveGuard program, it consumes resources in the background too and slows down windows...

I don't find the pavilion's a bad pc if you have them set up correctly, could be better graphics wise but I guess windows 7 standard graphics cards are to blame for that.

I have the same laptop as you year and all however I did have to turn my in game graphics details down all the way to get smooth gameplay.

I know it was the faulty hard drive disk but this is just my experience :)
