HP Pavilion dv6t 6000 Quad Edition - IDT Audio Driver Issue

Hello,

See my system specs for my laptop make and model. I cannot get the audio driver to install. I have tried two drivers from the HP website that it recommended for this model (sp55094.exe and sp51637.exe) as well as allow Windows Update to locate it for me. It's not working. It is an IDT software, specifically for Beats Audio. And it simply is not installing. It says the hardware is not supported.

Disclaimer: I did get a new mobo over Christmas break, but it was matching identical to the original I'm not sure why the audio's not wanting to work.

Reinstall the Intel motherboard chipset drivers and then see if the IDT will install. Since you had the motherboard replaced the chipset drivers may need to be reinstalled. One of the things the chipset drivers do is define (Identify) all the devices on the motherboard. I have seen many Intel based motherboards that will have problems specifically with the audio chip if the motherboard drivers were not installed during Windows installation.

The Intel chipset drivers are listed on the HP download site for your model.

I actually just did a fresh OS install (Win 7 Home Prem x64 SP1) this last weekend. I installed the chipset drivers immediately after installation, before anything else. Maybe I could uninstall and reinstall my chipset drivers and see if that helps.

Just reinstall the chipset drivers and then try the audio drivers again.

If that doesn't work, maybe the new motherboard has different audio chip? I've seen that happen with a couple of models, the original motherboard may be the part number and a "-01" and the replacement is the motherboard part number and a "-02" and have some different hardware on the motherboard.

One other thing to try, go to www.intel.com and do a scan (automatically find drivers and software) for drivers and see what it says (and it may have a later chipset driver).

The intel tool doesn't recognize my audio device either. I don't know. It worked on my last OS install, which I did in January when I installed the new motherboard.

if you go into the device manager does it show anything interms of audio hardware or does it even show that there is a unknown device installed?

Check the BIOS. It may have been disabled somehow.

It recognizes in the device manager as "High Definition Audio Device".

High Definition Audio Device suggests the generic, basic function, Windows installed driver has been installed. With that, Windows is recognizing that there is an audio device. If this is HDMI audio then what is listed is not for the PC sound.

If the PC sound is enabled in the BIOS, then I would suspect the replacement motherboard either (1) has a defective sound chip or (2) has a different sound device. You will have to contact HP to determine that.

But what I don't understand is before this weekend, before I reformatted, it was working just fine.

Oh! So you did a reinstall. If you can confirm that the audio is NOT disabled in the BIOS, and it worked before the reinstall, it looks like another "clean" reinstall is in store. The reinstall assumes there is no hardware problem with the audio on the motherboard, however if a proper clean install is performed and there is still no audio, it would lead one to believe there is a hardware failure on the motherboard.

Another reformat? Ohhhh boy. I wonder how many cycles a hard drive can take...

Since it worked before you did the reinstall and now nothing seems to get it working, another reinstall is the next step. I know its a hassle, but with so many things that can go wrong with the OS, it would be like trying to find the "needle in the haystack". Thus a clean reinstall (reformat the hard drive then install).

However, if another install does not fix the sound problem, that points to a hardware problem on the motherboard.
